'The 2001 Chardonnay Art Series does not quite measure up to its brilliant 2000 counterpart (one of the finest Australian Chardonnays I have ever tasted), but it is an impressively endowed, medium to full-bodied effort offering aromas and flavors of honeysuckle, orange marmalade, pears, and background oak. This elegant, layered Chardonnay is buttressed by well-integrated acidity. It should drink well for 5-6 years.' 91 points Drink 2004-2010 Wine Advocate #155 (Oct 2004) Robert Parker

'A classically sumptuous, luxuriant chardonnay from this celebrated maker, with a lightly smoky, floral perfume of minerals, grapefruit and lemon zest. Very reserved despite being so richly succulent, unfolding layers of deep fruit flavours, creamy oak and cashew nuts, before a finish of exceptional length and balance. Absolutely seamless and harmonious. 96 points.' Jeremy Oliver's The Australian Wine Annual 2005

'This gets my vote for the greatest white wine Australia has ever produced. Utterly seamless, harmonious and seductive, a gorgeous cascade of pear, pineapple, guava, nectarine and subtle spice aromas and flavours that flow over the palate like a babbling brook in a Japanese garden. Its amazingly refined and built to last, but it feels perfectly comfortable with itself already. The finish just sails on and on. Drink now through 2020. From Australia. 98 points.' Harvey Steiman, Wine Spectator, 5 August 2004
'Leeuwin has for at least a decade been widely regarded as Australia's greatest chardonnay and certainly outstanding for its longevity, which it holds over the other Margaret River front-rowers - Cape Mentelle, Cullen , Pierro and Moss Wood. It hasn't slipped an inch. The 2001 was restrained and a touch subdued, with a taut and almost nervy palate tangy, dry and crisply acid with controlled power. Baked spiced apples, said Otton grapefruit and nectarine, said Forrestal. While it's one of the oldest current releases, the 2001 is still a baby. The 1995 vintage (sold out) was one of the few older vintages to improve with age, showing no sign of coming to the end of its life. For me, it was the wine of the tasting.' GOURMET TRAVELLER WINE - SUMMER 2004
'White Wine of the Year' 'This is a quite extraordinary chardonnay that seems to get better every time I taste it. The nose is deeply complex with an invasion of nutty, citrus smells worked with a little mealy grapefruit character. The palate is exceptionally long with power and wonderful intensity. It is still so young at the moment and yet it shows plenty of flavour. Will be one of the greats. 96/100.' Ray Jordan's Western Australia Wine Guide 2004/2005
'The nose is lush in stone-fruit and grapefruity aromas with nutty, smoky touches. It may not be quite as elaborate as some of the new-wave Australian chardonnays, but the mouth-feel is lovely, multi-layered, smooth, super-long and finely balanced. It achieves a delicious creamy texture despite having minimal malolactic fermentation. Serve it with lobster.' The Penguin Good Australian Wine Guide, 2004/2005, Ralph Kyte-Powell and Huon Hooke
'Fresh, aromatic nose combines grapefruit, flowers and clove more precise than the 2000. Juicy and bright in the mouth more youthful and gripping than then 2000, if not quite as harmonious today. But this structured, very long, minerally chardonnay ultimately possesses richer fruit. Incidentally, owner Denis Horgan told me that his greatest vintages of the past couple of decades for his world-class Art Series Chardonnay have been 97. 95 and 87 (92+? points).' Stephen Tanzer, International Wine Cellar, July/August 2004, Issue 115
'The reputable Art Series Chardonnay, very Burgundian in style, showed all the finesse, class and longevity of its French counterparts, and is more approachable and affordable than the other self proclaimed iconic Australian chardonnays.' Gilbert Labour, Canberra Times, 26/05/04 'Consistently Australia's best Chardonnay. Has the typical structure of powerful, lingering fruit with a searing, lingering acidity. The complex mix of pear, grapefruit and wheat husk are deep and penetrating. Impeccably structured and with the power and intensity to last for many years. It is one of Australia's few long-term cellaring Chardonnays.' Ray Jordan, Decanter Magazine, UK, May 2004
