5/5 VINTAGE RATING FOR BRUNELLO DI MONTALCINO! - DECANTER

"Ruby red tending towards garnet, with typical red berry fruit opening out on the nose and in the mouth, mineral overtones, delicate spices, supported by generous acidity, restrained tannin and a long finish. Power and structure are balanced with superb elegance in Brunello di Montalcino La Màgia, a remarkable wine that is aged for three years mainly in 500 litre French oak tonneaux." - La Magia

"La Màgia's extremely impressive 2019 Brunello di Montalcino was vinified in a mixture of stainless steel tanks and large oak casks, where the grapes were left to macerate on the skins for 40 days. The wine was then aged for 36 months in 500 litre French oak barrels (one-third new, two-thirds second use) and refined for 7 months in bottle before release. Made from 100% Sangiovese harvested from stony-sand over clay subsoil, sitting at 400-450m elevation within the central-south-east of Montalcino." - Wine House

"A gem of Montalcino, Fattoria La Màgia has become a trailblazing name for their expressive single-estate Sangiovese wines. The Schwarz family relocated from Alto Adige to Montalcino in the 1970s after purchasing the estate and viewing the potential of its beautiful panoramic, southeast-facing stony slopes.

Fabian Schwarz took the reins from his father Harald in 2011 on both the winemaking and management side, after studying at the Istituto Agrario San Michele all’Adige. Through his use of old vines, artisanal and non-mechanized processes as well as incredible passion, these quality wines continue to impress audiences on the local and international scale.

Fabian and his family have decided to produce their precious Brunello only in the best vintages, listening to nature and helping it to speak freely in their wines, protecting the grape and soil identity. This is why by the end of the ‘80s sustainable energy had been introduced: initially with solar panels for hot water, then – from 2008 – with a photo-voltaic system to make the cellar fully approach in the cellar, but especially in the vineyards thanks to their biodynamic certification." - The Standard Wine Co.
