Nick Stock 96 points! The Age/SMH Best Non-Vintage Champagne!
An astonishing mosaic of a champagne, made up of some 50 wines from 6 to 10 different years, which gives the Krug Grande Cuvee its complexity, elegance and consistent flavour, year after year.
There is no recipe for the Krug Grande Cuvee. Every year, the Krug family gets together to recreate 'their' Grande Cuvee, relying solely on taste. Six years later, the champagne will be ready to be tasted again, every bit the equal of its predecessors.
An intense, enchanting bouquet. Full, round aromas. A flavour of roasted hazelnuts whose depth is drawn out and amplified in the mouth, ending with a flowery, beautifully fresh note.
Krug
Nick Stock 96 points!"Krug is in superb shape, a purple patch; really impressive and symphonic, one of the most amazingly complex examples, yet utterly precise. Complexity begins in the vineyards, of which this house owns many prime plots; fermentation utilises old oak barrels and the time spent on lees is longer that most to knit it all together tight. It offers plenty of woody, nutty, savoury aromas, baking spice and toasty complexity across nougat, citrus and chalky, mineral-like notes. The palate's an essay in power and precision, built around a core of sizzlingly taut acidity. It drives long with powerful pinot noir presence and finishes right on point."
