'File this under 'How did they do that?'.
Much lighter style of Block 6 here and they have risen to meet the road. Oak is less and finesse is more. Red and black fruits, mint chocolate, hazelnut and vanilla, dried herbs, a little earth and spice. Fine boned, almost, clear acid and light tannin with the typical ironstone feel of Kays, but played at lower volume. It is not astringent, nor is it swampy, though it does show some of the vintage character. Finish is firm and clear too. Don't be put off by the vintage this is a wine well worthy of the investment.'

'Medium to deep garnet-purple in color, the 2011 Block 6 Shiraz is intensely scented of kirsch, mulberries and warm red cherries with nuances of black and white pepper, cumin seed, star anise and cardamom. Medium-bodied, tightly knit and elegantly fruited in the mouth, it has somewhat bracing acidity at this youthful stage and a medium level of chewy tannins to lend support through the long finish. Drink it 2015 to 2025+.

My visit at Kay Brothers included tastings of back vintages of the Hillside Shiraz and the Block 6 Shiraz as a demonstration of how these very special wines can age.'
