There's a core of energy in Block 6 that permeates every crevice of this wine, toned down a notch in ripeness this year, highlighting the complexity of its Christmas cake spice and berry fruits. New American and Baltic oak leaves a rustic and coarse edge to the tannins, but this will be a long-lived Block 6, and the oak will fade to its rightful place in time."

"Plenty of complex oak " savoury and pencilly along with sweeter vanilla milkshake flavours. Ferrous and dark with blackcurrant, blackberry and aniseed, round thick tannin and abundant power.The earth/ironstone/savoury oak flavours temper the fruit beautifully. It's tightly controlled and charismatic with a long finish. Great character and individuality. Loved it."

"The 2008 Block 6 Shiraz has a very deep garnet-purple color and intense notes of tar and anise over warm blueberry and bramble preserve aromas plus hints of cedar, earth, coffee beans and smoked meat. Very crisp, full and rich with good structure, medium-firm fine-grained tannins and a long finish, this is a great effort for this difficult vintage in the McLaren Vale. It's approachable now but is better broached in a year or two and should cellar to 2020+."
