"Time allowed only a quick catch-up with Kaesler's Reid Bosward during my May trip. The current release of the Alte Reben (Old Vine) Shiraz is the 2015, a reassuringly brilliant effort. These wines are being made with more polish and tension than in the past, with a (little) less emphasis on sheer power.
Previously reviewed from barrel in Issue 227, the 2015 Alte Reben Shiraz is now in bottle and looks fantastic. Pencil shavings, raspberries and thyme blossoms all appear on the nose, while the full-bodied palate delivers spicy complexity, ripe, creamy-textured tannins and terrific length. From a vineyard in Marananga planted in 1899, this is intense, supple and just downright great juice."

"Plush, polished and stylish; a meaty presence of blackberries, mulberries and cassis knit with vanilla/smoked oyster oak and a fine mineral spine."

“The first release of this wine was in 2010. The vineyard, located off Jenke Road, was established in 1899, with its western soil combining schist rock over blue grey clay, and goes into making the Bogan, our old vine shiraz. Alte Reben is rich and voluptous and standing right on its feet.
