"Sourced from Kaesler estate vines planted in 1930, Alte Reben means "Old Vines" in German (the Kaeslers hail from Deutschland) and this is the first release of a single vineyard Mataro, which was previously all used for the Avignon GSM. It looked so amazing in 2008, Kaesler kept a small parcel separate in one year old French oak for 15 months and bottled it as this straight varietal. This has ripe and concentrated blackberry flavours, dried fruit, with earth and spice notes. Full-bodied, this has firm tannins which will tame with cellaring or with a decant and hearty food."
