““The results of 2014 we what made us happiest, but our expectations were changed several times”, says Dr Katharina Prum, “we had a very early start of the season, similar to 2007 and 2011, but the turnout of the vintage was very different as it was cooler later in the year, racy, higher acid vintage than usual”. Kabinett through Goldkapsel was made, but only one Goldkapsel from 2014. The focus in 2014 was on Kabinett and Spatlese,”it’s a bit more old-fashioned [the vintage] in some respects, needing more time to open up, reminding us of our long-lasting vintages”. The Kabinett is a blend of vineyards and always from estate grown grapes. Varying from vintage to vintage, it’s chosen from grapes that perhaps don’t quite make the grade for single vineyard wine, but still of high calibre fruit. It’s for people to get into the JJ Prum vibe with. I love drinking this in bars. Bright scents of river pebbles, fresh lime, candied citrus, puff of talc and smoke. It sits juicy yet bracingly fresh in the palate, crisp edged, light and flightly. Gosh, so utterly smashable. Pure, brisk, lick of barely there sweetness, finishes quite dry and slatey. Built for bars and drinking plenty of. Yes! Great release.”
