[SOLD-OUT] Jim Barry McRae Wood Shiraz 1999

“Pure Clare, pure Shiraz” This Shiraz honours the vision of pioneer Clare Valley winemaker, Jim Barry. In 1964 Jim purchased 70 acres of prime land from Duncan McRae Wood and planted his first vineyard with Shiraz. It was an inspired choice of both grape variety and location. The McRae Wood Shiraz is a benchmark Clare Shiraz. Rich, powerful and opulent, with an intensity of fruit that can only come from mature, low-yielding vines. The 1999 vintage was excellent. A dry summer and good rains just before harvest ensured the vines were in perfect health, and this is reflected in the rich fruit and deep colour of the wine. Winemaker Notes Colour Dark red to black. Bouquet Spicy aromas of sweet plum, blackberry and liquorice. Palate Rich fruit character and velvety tannins followed by a long, elegant finish with plums. Maturation Fifteen months in new French barriques and one-year-old American hogsheads. Ageing This wine already has great depth and concentration, but careful cellaring will be further rewarded. Serve Meat casseroles or try savouring this wine with cheese at the end of the meal.
