"Nebbiolo, produced because Ron Laughton was ‘wowed’ by the variety. Mark Shield, the late great wine writer, arrived at the winery one day with a fine, matured Barbaresco, very early on in the Jasper Hill story, and an epiphany occurred. In 1991 an ad ran in the back of Grapegrower and Winemaker magazine for nebbiolo rootlings and that was that, though the stock sent from CSU wiped out their collection and six sticks of the six clones had to be ripped up and sent back to CSU as Ron had cleaned out the supply!
Savoury, cedary scents, dark cherries, amaro, espresso. The palate is firm and chewy with dry coffee ground tannins, inwardly concentrated, salted liquorice, ripe cherry. Almost gummy through the long, puckering finish, this wine isn’t shy of tannin and oak overlay, but seem to find balance in its heft. Good wine, in its style."

"Light brick red colour when poured, but don’t be deceived into thinking this is a lightweight, as the typical floral nose and savoury palate opens into a barrage of fine grained tannins and assertive acidity. Match to a fully ripened surface moulded cheese. 14.5% alc/vol"
