'This comes off the Pyren Vineyard in the Pyrenees. Whole bunch goes long, wine goes to bottle no filter-no fining. Used oak is employed for maturation. Moody, brooding dark fruit with dusting of clove, earth, undergrowth and black pepper. Snarls from the glass with impenetrable colour, purple rims and the whiffs of ripe fruit, mottled sprigs of dried Provencale herbs and slate. Chewy, jagged and rippling with dark fruit in the mouth - it's more savoury and more assertive than the smooth flow of Beechworth Syrah 2013, but it's equally compelling. Locks you in with its rugged, concentrated flair, elemental earthiness and sinewy length of flavour. Feels like a wine of the ouevre of a madman, but with the fruit weight, abstract structure and tannin tug of something more tangible. Brilliant wine.'

'Vivid purple. Heady, spice-accented aromas of cassis, boysenberry, violet pastille and licorice, with a smoky topnote. Dark berry liqueur flavors show real depth and intense sweetness but maintain vivacity thanks to zesty minerality and a touch of cracked pepper. This generous yet lively wine finishes with lingering black and blue fruit qualities, silky tannins and excellent persistence.'
