"Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2010 Izway Bruce Shiraz exudes dark fruit, cassis, tar and meat aromas with hints of licorice and a touch of dark chocolate. Full-bodied and rich, it has medium to firm, fine tannins and a long, layered finish. It is approachable now but is best to drink from 2014 to 2022+."

"From the Bruce block in Koonunga Hill and the Schubert block from Marananga which has scattered ironstone through vineyard, which Isbel says helps add another dimension to the wine. The 2010 also has a touch of the home block fruit in it too. The original Bruce block is sandy loam over clay, which provides a textural component, richness and tannin profile. Schubert is used to restrain Bruce. Isbel says the aim is to get more minerality in the wine. ‘We’re not of the opinion that it’s better to pick early, but we think phenolic ripeness is correct, we look to pick vineyard specifically to build the wine’. All old oak again.

Really bright high-toned aromatics – attractive to see concentration parlayed so well. Chinese spice, dark plums, chocolate. Has a floral aspect too. Slippery yet pure and lifted in the palate, elegant for Barossa with smooth contours, utterly seductive and moreish kind of feel. No heat, just richness, bold, but tempered with spice and liquid chocolate, polished tannins."
Mike Bennie, Wine Front 2013

"The 2010 vintage was a stand out and delivered very high quality Shiraz. The wines tend to be dark, earthy and soulful."

"Here is a Bruce to drink as intended, perfectly cellared in the medium term. Drink this now or over the next few years and you will enjoy its rich, concentrated palate of red fruit, licorice, chocolate, earth, charcuterie and vanilla. It is optimally showing its full spectrum of colour on a spectacular length of palate. Remarkable

We're very excited to bring Izway to your attention. This wonderful wine is everything we know and love about Barossa, yet shows freshness and elegance elevating it far above jammy/confected wines that often characterise the region. It is a complementary blend from two famous sites: the Schubert Block 3 in Marananga (which went into Dan Standish's discontinued Schubert Theorem wine) on the famous Roennfeldt Road. This gives backbone and structure, as well as aromatics and ripe tannin. This blends with the concentrated depth from the old vine "Bruce" site in Koonunga Kills, tended by the Kalleskes."
