"The warm ripening autumn of 2008 gave a fuller wine than most other years. The bouquet shows the typical Allier oak spiciness over green olive, chocolate and ripe plum tones. Forest floor earthy touches can be seen. The ripeness shows in the lifted fruitiness so adding to the overall complexities of a warm year.
Taste wise we have the ideal follow-through of bouquet to palate.
The complexities are individual and obvious. Oak, fruit, abundant tannins with richness and velvety softness to the end taste. From this then the 2008 Grand Merlot will take its time in opening up fully to maximum reward. A wine to lay down. Quite tight right now, and is a quite forward wine showing the region and long term oak maturation."Irvine
