[SOLD-OUT] Hollick Wilgha Shiraz 1996

Hollick Wines have been making Shiraz since the family bought the Wilgha property in 1987.This vineyard is situated on the south – western corner of the famed Coonawarra strip. The cool climatic conditions of this region, and deft vineyard management contribute to fruit of outstanding quality. The 1996 Wilgha Shiraz is a selection of the finest fruit from this vineyard and, as in the tradition of Hollick Ravenswood Cabernet Sauvignon, it is only released in exceptional years.


Following the winning of the National Championship in its very first showing at the Adelaide Wine Show in 1989, the name Wilgha has become synonymous with high quality spicy shiraz. Restricting crop levels is one of the vineyard techniques used to maximise flavours. A mixture of modern and traditional winemaking techniques further enables maximum expression of fruit characters in this wine. The final few grams of sugar are fermented in new American oak hogsheads and the wine is then matured in these same barrels for a further 18 months. As with previous vintages, the 1996 Wilgha Shiraz is matured in bottle prior to release. Made with a cellaring potential of 10+ years, the Hollick team expect that it will slowly develop the brick-red colour, mellow fruit flavours and soft spicy aromas typical of an older coolclimate Shiraz
