[SOLD-OUT] Henschke Cyril Henschke Cabernet Sauvignon 2008

Gourmet Traveller Magazine 94 points!

The 2008 vintage of Henschke's flagship cabernet sauvignon is its 30th, and while it started as 100 per cent cabernet sauvignon from Eden Valley, it is now about 6 per cent merlot and 5 per cent cabernet franc. Typical of Eden Valley, it has a fragrant, leafy-herb note, as well as camphor and oatmeal. It is a restrained cabernet with cassis and red berries, tartness, spicy, cedary oak and lively acidity. Although released with four years' bottle age, it is youthful and will gain complexity in the next eight years.

Jane Faulkner, The Age, 20th July 2013.

'Blackcurrant, truffle, cedar and sage ' those smells typical of Cyril that some people really just love, which also invariably become even more pronounced with bottle age. It's medium bodied with appropriate oak in support, firm but ripe tannin and a long savoury finish. No blurring of excess alcohol or unwanted acidity here, which is entirely admirable. Showing a little maturity, and of course it will age.. Satisfying wine.'

Wine Front, 9th January 2013

'A ripe and dark Cyril that has plenty of Eden Valley leaves and herbs, some eucalyptus and hints of tomato paste, cassis and cranberry the oak is cedary and fresh. The palate's supple dark cherry and cassis flavours run on ripe, smooth tannins that open as they go. A ripe finish very approachable.'

Nick Stock, The Age/SMH Good Wine Guide 2013.

'Some wonderful herbal complexity without being vegetative. Blackberry and mulberry with dried herbs adding savoury complexity. Quite assertive structure, but it has weight of fruit. A wine for the future.'

Peter Bourne, GT Wine, June/July 2013.
