“Magnificently elegant and fragrant, a Gaia of the highest order, of wonderfully evocative grace and understated endurance. It captures its cool, high site with eloquence, presenting a pronounced violet fragrance that hovers over a core of blackcurrant fruit. In sheer line and length, one of the greatest Clare reds of the modern era.”
Tyson Stelzer, Wine Business Magazine, Aug 2016

"800 dozen made. A blend of Clare Valley cabernet sauvignon and cabernet franc, from the Gaia vineyard. The word humdinger comes to mind. It's one for the cabernet die-hards. It's mellifluous and yet it oozes tannin. And class. It tastes of blackcurrant, eucalypt, cocoa-rich chocolate, earth and tobacco. It is, simply, beautifully formed, and wonderfully long."
Campbell Mattinson, Wine Front, Jan 2016

Michael Cooper 5 Stars!
"Breed, rather than brute power, is the hallmark of Coleraine (correctly pronounced Cole-raine rather than Coler-aine), which since its first vintage in 1982 has carved out an illustrious reputation among New Zealand's claret-style reds. In all vintages since 2007, Cabernet Sauvignon has been the predominant variety. At its best, it is a magical Hawke's Bay wine, with a depth, complexity and subtlety on the level of a top-class Bordeaux. The grapes are grown in the Havelock North hills, in the company's warm, north-facing Buck and 1892 vineyards, and the wine is matured for 17 to 20 months in French oak barriques, predominantly new. From a notably warm, early-ripening season, the striking 2014 vintage (5*) is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (60 per cent), Merlot (28 per cent) and Cabernet Franc (12 per cent). (Malbec is definitely not in the recipe.) Dark and powerful, but not heavy (13.5 per cent alcohol), it has dense, ripe flavours of blackcurrants, plums, spices and dark chocolate, great complexity, and a firm foundation of tannin. Already highly expressive, it should flourish for at least a decade."
Michael Cooper

"In 2013, there are subtle floral aromatics with violet notes, and opulent mulberry, brambly, blackcurranty flavours complexed by briary notes. The palate is almost sumptuous: velvety, silky smooth, moving towards plush, balanced by very fine, slinky tannins that sit delicately on the finish."
Grosset

"Grosset's Cabernet Sauvignon is sourced from the Gaia site planted 30 years ago, grown at the Clare Valley's highest altitude. Langton's Classified, it is one of the most sought-after Australian wines. We adore it. It is aromatic and complex, with a textural palate delivering varietal fruit flavours backed by earthy, savoury notes which reassert themselves in the mouth for a long time. The Cabernet Sauvignon is rounded by some 15-20% Cabernet Franc, also grown at Gaia, which provides further aromatic lift and freshness."
