"A finely structured, savoury and rather complex wine whose floral, earthy and slightly meaty aromas of dark plums and berries are coupled with cedary, dark chocolate-like oak. It's moderately rich, with a long and meaty palate whose reserved, elegant expression of plum/red berry fruit is tightly underpinned by fine, dusty tannin, finishing long, drying and focused. It's well-bred and stable, and certain to cellar well."

"This year's blend is made up of 75% cabernet sauvignon, 20% cabernet franc and 5% merlot. Of upper echelon cabernet blends it would rank among Australia's most consistent.

It's an elegant, lengthy, stylish wine, rippling with acidity and tannin and herbal (to the point of bitterness) on the finish. Through the mid-palate there's a nice dose of chocolatey, briary, almost leathery flavour, the mix of mulberries and currants leaning distinctly towards the savoury side. There's something Italianate about this year's release. I like it but it won't be for everyone."
