It's fine, tight, well-powered, juicy, has its fingers of acid kept snug inside the fruit/spice flavours, and while unafraid of sawdusty oak flavours it has a delicious sense of integration. It's been well tuned. And is therefore harmonious. Seductive, even. Appreciably stony finish. Style-wise it sits at a beautiful mid-point between cool and warm/hot climate."

The 2012 is certainly the finest release so far of this wine.Again, this is a barrel selection, yet it ends up coming mostly from the lower half of the slope, an area of the vineyard that naturally produces fleshier, more open wine. In the blending for the Syrah No 2 we are looking for those barrels that are more generous, more textural, and more immediately delicious. It isn't a 'second wine' as such, but a stylistically different, earlier-drinking blend from the same vineyard. The winemaking is exactly the same as for the Graillot Syrah, which certainly would not be the case if we were making a second wine. In 2012 the final blend resulted in around 35-40 per cent whole bunch. The final result could be described as a fleshier, earlier drinking manifestation of the Graillot.
