Grace Yamanashi de Grace 2021

THIS NATIVE JAPANESE GRAPE IS MADE INTO A DELICIOUSLY LIGHT RED WITH A FRUITY EDGE - IT'S DIFFERENT AND WE LOVE IT FOR THAT

"Bright medium ruby colour with a purple rim. A rich nose with fruity aromas such as fresh blueberry and plum, floral aromas such as rose and lavender, subdued oak, accented with soft spice aromas such as nutmeg and clove. Dry on the palate, fine tannins and supple acidity very elegantly expressed, with flavours of blueberry and rose expand in the mouth. On the whole, a refreshing wine characterized by varietal purity.

Muscat Bailey A (74%), Merlot (20%),Cabernet Franc (4%), Cabernet Sauvignon (2%). The wine is based on Muscat Bailey A from contract growers in the Hosaka district, Nirasaki city, at the foot of Mt. Kayagatake in northwestern Yamanashi prefecture, blended with Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon from our own Misawa Vineyard. The wine is matured in French oak barrels (for about 8 months), followed by a well-balanced assemblage in a manner so as to maximise the varietal characteristics of the respective varieties." - Grace Wine

"Muscat Bailey A is a hybrid of Bailey (V. labruscana) and Muscat Hamburg (V. vinifera), developed in Japan.  It’s an unusual wine in some respects. It’s grapey and aromatic, and also a bit funky and not-quite-typical, then there’s redcurrant and strawberry, a little cedar and pencil, and savoury flavours in the mix. It’s only just medium-bodied, the tannin is supple and ripe, some sweet grassy flavour in with red jelly, and a pretty good and long dry finish. It’s kind of like a big rosé in some respects. I find it curiously enjoyable to drink."Gary Walsh, Wine Front
