"Even bigger, richer and darker than the 2015, the 2016 Anaperenna Shiraz-Cabernet Sauvignon is 84% Shiraz and 16% Cabernet. These are not wines for fans of shy, delicate wines, but neither are they clumsy fruit bombs. This is pleasantly multifaceted, with complex notes ranging from charred beef, black olive and asphalt to blackberries and cassis, all underscored by loam, vanilla and cedar. Full-bodied (15.5% alcohol), it's hugely ripe but balanced, with supple tannins and enough acidity on the long, velvety finish to balance the ledger.

"84% shiraz, 16% cabernet sauvignon, open-fermented, matured for 16 months in 100% new hogsheads (92% French, 8% American). The colour is typically deep, the bouquet complex, as is the palate (no surprise), but doesn't hit you with its alcohol (most surprising of all). It's hard to imagine the French oak could be the answer. Regardless, the black fruits (berry and currant) hold sway until the finish, when the alcohol does raise its head. I'm happy to accept that, but would choose my beef steak with care (5cm thick)."

James Halliday Wine Companion 2019

"84% Shiraz and 16% Cabernet Sauvignon. The Shiraz vines are between 30 and 100 years old, the Cabernet between 30 and 130. Yields are 2.5 tonnes per hectare. Fermented in 1- and 2-tonne open fermenters, hand-plunged 3 times daily. Matured for 16 months in 100% new oak hogshead barrels (92% French and 8% American, on lees to maintain fruit profile and animation. Bottled unfiltered to ensure minimal interference with the wine’s natural characteristics.

Deep garnet with bright purple hues. Lovely herbal lift with notes of blackberry, anise and spice box. Tightly wound, layered spice complements deep, dark fruit elements. Supple tannins contribute to palate length with well integrated seamless acidity. A wine that will mature extremely well with long term cellaring up to 20 years."

- Glaetzer

"Glaetzer’s Anaperenna is an unfiltered Barossa blend of shiraz and cabernet sauvignon that has always embraced its own excess.

This 15.5% alc whopper sure does that but, against the odds of its own numbers, it does so in a sure-footed way. Yes this is warm and rich but it’s fluid, juicy even, and the fruit itself maintains a freshness. You have to give it kudos for that. Asphalt, saltbush, redcurrant and even boysenberry characters are at play here, woodsmoke and fresh-roasted nut notes in minor evidence only. It’s sweet and it’s fruit driven. It pushes confidently out through the finish. It makes a good case for the bigger style"
