Wine List/Farr Rising

[SOLD-OUT] Farr Rising Pinot Noir 2020

GOURMET TRAVELLER WINE WINEMAKER OF THE YEAR 2020!

"The Farr Rising pinot vineyard was planted in 2001. It is a very exposed and hungry north-facing slope, consisting of grey sandy loam mixed with an ironstone pebble (buckshot) at the top. This leads into black volcanic soil over limestone at the bottom of the vineyard. Over time, the site has shown that it can certainly stand up to its bigger brothers (Farrside and Sangreal).

The bottled wines are precise and fine. The reds have poise about their structure. As light and fresh wines, they are perfectly balanced. All we can ask of our vineyards is that they speak and express their soil, the growing conditions of that particular year, and classic varietal characteristics..

The wine typically shows a soft perfumed nose, which begins to build. The palate has sweetness, followed by mineral overtones enhanced by toasty oak, and firm flavours with a long and savoury finish. This is a gem of a wine, with ageing potential of five to eight years from most vintages." - By Farr

"This Single Vineyard Pinot began as the entry level label at By Farr but with twenty years of vineyard maturation, proves itself as sophisticated and delicious as any of the By Farr Pinot Noir wines. Expect spice and forest floor along with brambly dark fruits. Long and precise. As you'd expect from Gourmet Traveller Wine's Winemaker of the Year 2020, it is exceptionally well made!" - Wine House
