[SOLD-OUT] Ergo Sum Shiraz 2013 1500mL-Magnum

A Shiraz from Giaconda's Assistant Winemaker...

"What began as the brainchild of M. Chapoutier and Giaconda, this remarkable Shiraz is made by Rick Kinzbrunner's nephew Peter Graham over at Domenica. Peter Graham is a hot property in Australian wine, having been Giaconda's assistant winemaker for 13 years, as well as worked with Michel Chapoutier at Ramey in California, he is considered part of the new wave of Australian wine.

This Shiraz, which was previously almost entirely exported, continues to lift its profile domestically as one of Beechworth's benchmark Shirazs. It is still sourced from the vineyard Giaconda made famous as Nantua, and made with many techniques Graham learnt up the road at his uncle's winery. Wild ferments, multi-batch winemaking, whole bunches, hand-plunged extended maceration, barrel fermentation and maturation in only the finest French barriques (25% new).

Taste this and you will see that Beechworth is at the forefront of Victorian Shiraz and cool-climate examples anywhere. This is a Northern Rhone-influenced wine, with staggering quality. It is deeply flavoured and elegant; meaty and silky at once. The region's characteristic savouriness dominates, with charcuterie and peppery smokiness enhanced by ripe, brambly fruit and exotic spice. Assertive and long, it is really impressive and truly lovely to drink."
