"From the very first cuvee, Egly-Ouriet is disgtinguished for its ability to preserve exacting precision and outstanding chalk mineral focus in the midst of magnificent generosity. This is a vinous wine of calm authority, carrying the full grandeur and complexity of carfully tended, old-vine pinot noir on some of Champagne's most revered Grand Crus, It juxtaposes freshness and depth, a marvel of red cherries, plums, dried fruits, and mixed-spice of rippling intensity, showcasing four and a half years on lees, yet at every moment impeccably focussed with scintilating acidity and miner-infused poise. A paradox of luxurious generosity and crystalline purity.' - Tyson Stelzer, The Champagne Guide 2016/2017
"I love that Egly-Ourier put a disgorgement date on the back label. This is July 2010, so when and if you have a bottle, you'll know we're talking about the same blend or batch. Apart from the vagaries of cork, shipping and storage, it makes me feel mildly more confident about reviewing NV Champagne. I bought this wine for pleasure, so the note taking is not so well considered, but the impression is what counts most.
Bread and cinnamon flecked dough, rich and golden with a subtle sweetness, but also a savoury and pulsating sort of richness and dryness. The texture and gentle foaminess lend an air of calm and sophistication to the wine, and the overall impression it gives is one of controlled power " a wine that knows what it's about, if you like." - Gary Walsh, Wine Front
