"The 2021 Ürziger Würzgarten GG Alte Reben offers a clear, beautifully refined and flinty bouquet of ripe and elegant Riesling fruit spiced with stony splinters. Lush and refined on the palate, this is a very elegant, saline and textured Riesling with enormous salinity in the mouth-watering, rich and intense finish. Definitely the finest GG of the vintage here." - Stephan Reinhardt, Wine Advocate
"The ungrafted vines from which we produce this great Riesling are up to 120 years old. They reside in a plot called “Urglück,” a steep site that rises steeply directly behind the village in the heart of the Würzgarten. The vines grow in red volcanic and slate soil that gives the wine aromas of spice along with tropical fruits, such as pineapple and mango. The must is fermented spontaneously in a 1,000-liter barrel and sits on the full lees for twelve months.
Luminous red and unspeakably steep, the Ürziger Würzgarten forms an amphitheater made of Rotliegend that is unique on the Moselle. Although located immediately upstream from Erden's vineyards, the Ürziger Würzgarten produces an entirely different type of great Riesling, with great depth and full of exotic-spicy aromas. The weathered red, slate volcanic rock makes the Ürziger Würzgarten so unique on the Moselle. A high iron content in the soil gives the location its bright color." - Dr Loosen
