Campbell Mattinson 93 Points!"Curly Flat spent a bomb in the growing and making of this chardonnay in order to deal with the difficulties of the 2011 season. A bomb more than usual. "In addition to our dedicated vineyard team, we required several additional staff throughout the entire growing season as we grappled to stay on top of the canopy management challenge. We got there but all the extra people, double the normal number of tractor passes for hedging and spraying and additional spray material came with a cost; an additional cost of around $1350 per tonne. It was well worth it; it was a year of all or nothing."
The 2011 chardonnay is glowing yellow in colour and shows pronounced oak on the nose. It's a slippery, buttery, rich style with searing citrussy acidity. Big and elegant at once. Peach, toast, limes and spicy, cedary cream. It's certainly not for the oak averse, yet it's well balanced and lengthy."
