"Not to be made every year, the debut vintage of the 2012 Vanya is a blend of 97% Cabernet Sauvignon with 3% Petit Verdot. Only 4,500 bottles of this wine were made. It spent 19 months in 50% new oak and possesses a deep garnet-purple color with a savory, yeasty and meaty nose redolent of red and black plums, cassis and cigar box, and a spicy undercurrent of lavender, bay leaf and rust. This multi-layered, taut, intensely flavored wine is beautifully elegant in the mouth, with incredibly ripe flavors and with silky tannins. It should cellar for 20-30 years or more. 'Very rarely a vintage occurs which presents us with a unique opportunity to create something truly special. The 2012 vintage was an exceptional year, and allowed us the privilege to produce an extraordinary wine.
Cullen Vineyard, with its land, vines, wines and people... is my life's work. Over the 33 year period of working at Cullen the love for Cabernet Sauvignon has deepened. Planted in 1971, it is the heart and soul of what we do at Cullen.
This wine of the 2012 vintage is a tribute to the land and the vines it came from. Pure expression of a great year. No additions of yeast, acid, malolactic culture, fining or filtration. The wines grown on these ancient soils are certified biodynamic, carbon neutral and powered naturally by solar power. Crop level 7 tons per hectare and it is a blend of 97% Cabernet Sauvignon and 3% Petit Verdot. The fermentation of both primary and malolactic was natural. The primary fermentation took 6 days and malolactic fermentation took 6 weeks. Skin contact time 21 days and the fruit was sourced from 100% old vines on Cullen Vineyard. All of the Wine was aged in Sylvain and Taransaud oak barrels for 19 months of which 50% were new.' - Vanya Cullen
