[SOLD-OUT] Cullen Kevin John Chardonnay 2011

"The dry and warm spring in 2010 and consistently hot summer conditions in 2011 has led to the production of white wines of exceptional flavour and elegance. It is also no coincidence that the 2011 vintage was one of super moons! (two full moons on one month). When this was first tasted after it had been in bottle for a while, it was immediately evident that this is destined for a future that will place it in the upper echelon of the Kevin John Chardonnays produced thus far.

The use of basket pressing, which has the great benefit of treating the fruit gently, played an important role in contributing to the elegance and complexity of this outstanding Chardonnay. The basket press gives only 40% juice yield and therefore better quality wines (nb. the second pressing of Kevin John grapes becomes Cullen Vineyard Chardonnay). The bouquet is intense and complex, combining attractive citrus, almond, pear and green apple aromas against a background of subtle vanillin oak. Rich crisp bright and focused, with the fresh citrus, honeysuckle and almond flavours complimented by the good acidity. A wine of great purity precision, length and persistence."

Kevin John articulates the character and texture of the Cullen vineyard more definitively with each season, and 2011 will go down among the greatest and longest-lived, charged with electric vibrancy and enchanting mouthful.
WBM Magazine, OCt 2013.

Lime, grapefruit, floral top notes, a little melon, fine spiced oak, some milky barrel work and matchstick. Tight, fresh, with an intense core of sparkling acidity, cashew and spice on a long finish. Built to last, you can safely assume.

"Lovely purity and reticence on the nose, then a tight knit, gloriously refreshing palate. Full of vim and waxiness. Fleshy and full - quite unlike the vogue Victorian Chardonnays. Nothing reductive about this!"
