[SOLD-OUT] Cullen Ephraim Malbec Petit Verdot 2023

CULLEN'S MALBEC PETIT VERDOT BLEND IS ON SONG. POWER AND CONCENTRATION THAT IS RICHLY REWARDING.

"70% Malbec,  30% Petit Verdot sourced entirely from the single vineyard, Mangan. Dense and concentrated vibrant ruby, garnet purple. Dense flavours of cherry, mulberry, salty plum, sage, violets, thyme. This wine has rich fruit concentration. Delicious on the first encounter, finishing with a vibrant chocolate berry lift. Enjoy now or for up to 20 years.

Ephraim Mayo Clarke, Kevin John Cullen’s grandfather, property owner and Member of Parliament, who established the first winery in the southwest in Bunbury in 1896. Hand harvested grapes of the best blocks of biodynamically certified Mangan Vineyard Malbec and Petit Verdot were naturally fermented and basket pressed and then matured in 35% new oak for 8 months.

A naturally fermented wine with no additions other than minimal sulphur dioxide to catch the terroir of Mangan vineyard in Wilyabrup. The 2023 vintage was excellent especially for red and colour and this wine is no exception. No fining." - Cullen

"One of the pioneers of Margaret River, and has always produced long-lived wines of highly individual style from the mature estate vineyards. The vineyard has progressed beyond organic to biodynamic certification and, subsequently, has become the first vineyard and winery in Australia to be certified carbon neutral... Winemaking is in the hands of Vanya Cullen, daughter of the founders; she is possessed of an extraordinarily good palate and generosity to the cause of fine wine. It is impossible to single out any particular wine from the top echelon." - James Halliday

"The philosophy of Cullen Wines is to search for the best quality expression of the vineyard in the wine. The maritime climate, rocky soils, dry farming and biodynamic practices all help to create individual and diverse wine styles which are unique to Cullen.

The maritime climate of Margaret River allows a near perfect environment in which to grow the finest quality grapes. The rocky soils produce low yielding intensely flavoured grapes and the flavour of these grapes is what creates the fabric for the wine style at Cullen. The vines are dry farmed, helping to ensure maximum fruit quality, and all pruning and harvesting are done by hand with great care. Quality is paramount and when the hand-harvested grapes arrive at the winery from the vineyard, they are sorted again to ensure that only the best goes into the bottle. Biodynamic practices and minimal intervention apply to both vineyard and winery with all wines being naturally fermented." - Cullen
