[SOLD-OUT] Cullen Cabernet Merlot 2019

WINE FRONT 95 POINTS!

"So dense and brooding, concentrated, and yet has a lightness and vigour that makes it so appealing. Black fruit, ripe raspberry, cedar and biscuit spice, dark chocolate and violets, bay leaf, with a sort of wet clay/mineral character in the mix. Tannin is firm and silty/slatey, fresh feel despite all that dark chocolate flavour, and the finish is long, with a black tea perfume trailing. Wonderful." - Gary Walsh, Wine Front

"This wine was produced on a certified Biodynamic, Carbon Neutral and naturally powered estate. This outstanding Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot from the 2018 vintage displays densely flavoured ripe dark fruits, complemented by discrete fine-grained tannins. It was matured in French oak barrels for 6 months, of which 25% were new. Dark fruits complemented by spicy notes. Medium plus with fine tannins. Lovely ripe plums, cassis and mulberry showing throughout the finish." - Cullen

"One of the pioneers of Margaret River, and has always produced long-lived wines of highly individual style from the mature estate vineyards. The vineyard has progressed beyond organic to biodynamic certification and, subsequently, has become the first vineyard and winery in Australia to be certified carbon neutral... Winemaking is in the hands of Vanya Cullen, daughter of the founders; she is possessed of an extraordinarily good palate and generosity to the cause of fine wine. It is impossible to single out any particular wine from the top echelon." - James Halliday

"The philosophy of Cullen Wines is to search for the best quality expression of the vineyard in the wine. The maritime climate, rocky soils, dry farming and biodynamic practices all help to create individual and diverse wine styles which are unique to Cullen.

The maritime climate of Margaret River allows a near perfect environment in which to grow the finest quality grapes. The rocky soils produce low yielding intensely flavoured grapes and the flavour of these grapes is what creates the fabric for the wine style at Cullen. The vines are dry farmed, helping to ensure maximum fruit quality, and all pruning and harvesting are done by hand with great care. Quality is paramount and when the hand-harvested grapes arrive at the winery from the vineyard, they are sorted again to ensure that only the best goes into the bottle. Biodynamic practices and minimal intervention apply to both vineyard and winery with all wines being naturally fermented." - Cullen
