“Every year I review Young Vines I think about how the vines aren’t really that young anymore, comparatively. I wonder if they will always be known as the young vines, as generations pass. I hope so. Nostalgia works well on our side and their side of the fence, I feel. Some of the most beautiful riesling grown anywhere in the world, I like to think too.

Puff of smoke, wet slate, cool steel, squeeze of lime, rasp of ginger, snapped lemongrass – beautiful bouquet. Bitter lemon and tonic to taste. Zesty tug of acidity drags long through the juicy palate, finishes with a mouthwatering slightly herbal twist. Feels jolted alive with zinging mineral character, so thirst crushing and yet elegant and driven. It’s superb riesling.”

After 12 years of making this wine, we continue to see a structural and textural difference between our older vines and the younger block (planted 2000) and so we continue to make the ‘young vines riesling’, now identifiable to so many of our clients. 2016 was a larger vintage after 2 very small crops however with no less flavour intensity. So we are thrilled to release this wine for Summer drinking.

Delicate citrus flowers and lime zest lead this youthful wine. Only at the beginning of a long life, it shows fresh white stone fruit and chalky texture on the rounded palate. Clean, taut acidity balance the wine and contribute to its very good persistence.
