"There was a time a handful of years back when I thought that a) Coldstream Hills was being left behind in the Yarra Valley pinot noir stakes and b) Chardonnay was clearly Coldstream Hills' best variety. Since then Coldstream Hills pinot noir has been resurgent. This 2013 rendition is a very strong release. Dry, sinewy, more structural than pretty, savoury and then fruity. Dark cherries, crushed dry (gum) leaves, pepper, a crackle of tannin and spice sparking through the flourish of the finish. Popping a few of these into your cellar is a smart option."
