Take the fine, elegant elements of the 2014, turn up the intensity and you've got the exceptional 2015 Domaine Clarendon Syrah. Herbal nuances of thyme and bay leaf accent blueberry fruit, while spice and licorice shadings linger on the rich, velvety finish.

Roman Bratasiuk describes 2013 as elegant and nicely balanced and 2014 as pretty hot (in a good way). As for 2015, well, it's a huge success here, with supple textures and an early approachability that gives the wines an extra level of charm, without being less concentrated or age-worthy. In most instances, the concentration of the fruit here is such that the oak doesn't make a huge impact on the nose or palate. The wines are never fined or filtered, says Roman. The 2015s are already approachable.

Unlike the greater Clarendon Hills collection of very old and established vineyards, this is a flourishing new vineyard we have radically designed in an attempt to capture the globally unique geology located at the site. We've taken a collection of best, some traditional and some modern aspects of global ultra fine making and grape growing and combined the best of the best to, one day, discover an ultimate Australian terroir.

Domaine Clarendon reflects an exacting pursuit of viticultural excellence. The specially selected site is poised above McLaren vale in the highest reaches of Clarendon. Set on the edge of majestic Onkaparinga River Gorge, it overlooks the great expanse of Gulf St Vincent. Vine plantings were drawn from our primordial Astralis lineage, their native expression is one of pure minerality evolved over 750-1600 million years. Single stake vines were literally drilled straight into shattered schist boulders the size of houses. Dry grown and yielding just 1 tonne an acre.

Demonstrating a core of black fruit, lifted violet, lavender, kalamata olives, asian spices, minerality and game meat. Polished and impressively rounded on the palate. Substantial mid palate weight is densely packed with cassis and rose petal notes. There is a framework of muscularity and power however sweet and supple tannins mask any rigidity.
