"There are only 150 cases (100 came to the United States) of the debut vintage of 1994 Astralis. This is the hottest wine in Australian wine circles, as it came out ahead of two great vintages of Henschke's and Penfold's Grange in a recent tasting. If readers can believe it, it is a bigger, denser, more concentrated wine than the Grange! The Astralis boasts an opaque black/purple colour, a fabulously pure nose of jammy black-raspberry, and blackberry fruit, with chocolate, smoke, and liquorice notes in the background. Huge, massive, and bigger than life, this is the essence of the Syrah grape presented in an unbridled, enormously formatted style that will blow away most tasters. The wine's voluptuous texture allows it to be drunk now, although I suspect it will keep on going, a la the Energizer bunny, for another 20-25+ years."
