'Savoury, meaty and earthy, this is a fine-grained red of full to medium weight and a licorice-like bouquet of spicy, chocolatey and leathery fruit. Long and smooth, its restrained and earthy expression of dark plums, blackberries and minerally, bitumen-like undertones is framed by a drying spine of fine-grained tannins.'

'Shiraz/Grenache/Mourvedre blends are the signature of the Chateauneuf-du-Pape region of France's Rhone Valley, but Charlie Melton holds the crown for the best Aussie example. The cool 2002 vintage was especially kind to this blend, drawing out its intense spicy/stalky/peppery characters and merging them seamlessly with elegant, long red berry/cherry fruit of perfect ripeness. The tannins are seductively fine and grippy, and the finish goes on and on.'
Tyson Stelzer, 2/4/2005.
