Tar, raspberry, tobacco, raspberry and an assortment of dried herbs. Sweet, chocolatey oak adds a gentle spruce. Not hard to like, shall we say."

"Cape Mentelle Zinfandel is considered Australia's benchmark of the variety. Most people's experience of Zinfandel is with one of the American blockbusters from California. Cape Mentelle's shows more structure and finesse, seemingly having it all: floral and delicate perfume, layers of deep blue and black berried flavour, the characteristic fruitcake spice, and savoury undertones of meat and chocolate. The most impressive aspect of the wine is its fresh acidity which keeps the barrage of hedonistic flavour structured and in check."
