“Cape Mentelle's newie, the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon, is I believe among the best that the esteemed winery has ever made. I scored it 98, which is rare for me, especially for such a young wine just setting out on what whill be a long career. Deep, dark red colour with a good tint of purple, the bouquet likewise deep and mysterious, with traces of coffee grounds, tinged with quality oak: a serious wine all-round. It's full-bodied and very concentrated, profoundly flavoured and structured, with masses of tannin and a terrifically long finish. A powerfully built cabernet of outstanding potential. ”

“Boysenberry, raspberry and raisin, chocolate hazelnut, mint, tobacco. Medium to full-bodied, nutty churn of dark chocolate tannin, tobacco and pencil, smooth yet assertive, powering through the finish with a savoury tobacco-laced aftertaste. Strong release. Tannin is a high point. Yes.”

“One of the state's most famous cabernets. A Slightly more robust expression of the variety than recent vintages. The tannins are grainy with subtle assertiveness. The fruit is ripe and generous. It's a robust structure deep concentration of fruit that extends to a sustained finish. It has the structure to handle extended cellaring.”
