Wine List/By Farr

[SOLD-OUT] By Farr Shiraz 2011

Campbell Mattinson 92 Points!

"'Certainly if we were trying to go elegant, this is as elegant as we will ever see shiraz', says winemaker Nick Farr. There's co-fermented viognier to the tune of 4%, 'it's used to draw out length and stuff the wine a little more'.

'There's certainly a lightness to all of the wines from 2011, unlike any other vintage we have ever seen, but to have that freshness, we'd never seen that, so we took it as something good'. Ironically, the hugest crops the site had ever had, 'the complete opposite to everyone else. No disease issue'. There you go.

"Spicy, peppery, briar and red fruit " it's very fragrant, pure and fresh to sniff. Vibrant, crisp and nervous with acid and sweet-sour fruit. Tight, long in flavour and offering gentle sweetness coupled to fine but grunty tannins. This feels very elegant, very fine, sleek; good crunch and savouriness too. It does show some dilution in flavour, but the mix of amaro, sweetness, earthiness and herbal spice is still compelling. Worthy."
Campbell Mattinson, the Wine Front
"Medium red colour with a purple rim. Sweetly vegetal, herbal and minty aromas, reflection whole-bunch fermentation. Some raspberry. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly prominent acidity and light, chalky tannins. There is fruit sweetness and some charm, and it is soft and balanced and easy to drink."
Huon Hooke, The Gourmet Traveller Wine Guide 2015.
