"From vintage 2021 our Moonlight Race comprises three sites that we farm ourselves: our estate vineyards Burn Cottage Vineyard in Lowburn, and Sauvage Vineyard in Bannockburn, along with the Luna vineyard in Bannockburn. The blend of these three special sites produces our vibrant expression of classic Central Otago Pinot Noir. Bright cherry and plum notes complement spice, pepper and savoury earthy complexity. Layered and expressive, there is a core of supple fruit and fine textural tannins extending through the palate. Whilst approachable now, expected cellaring potential is up to 7 years." – Burn Cottage
"Supple, elegant pinot noir with floral/red rose supported by fruit and alcohol sweetness. Deliciously drinkable now but with the potential to become even more interesting with age.
Moonlight Race, the lightest and most accessible of the Pinots of Burn Cottage, is a blend of wine from the Burn Cottage Vineyard in Lowburn and the Sauvage Vineyard in Bannockburn. It takes its name from a water pathway which passes through the Burn Cottage property, one of the hundreds of water channels, ‘races’, which were created during the early years of European immigration to bring water down from the mountains. The Moonlight Race ebbs and flows during the seasons, its beginnings being in melted snow and rain high in the Pisa Mountain Range, 1100-1600m above the Burn Cottage property." - Bob Campbell, Real Review
