"The latest crop of Bowen Estate wines is the best I've tasted for years. The '04 Cabernet Sauvignon is simply excellent, bursting with bluckcurrant fruit and classy French oak. It's vibrant and intense, with fine granied tannins and no excesses of alcohol or oak. The leafy, briary high-notes of Southern Coonawarra are there, but the grapes are ripe and sweet.

"A very fine, tightly focused and classical Coonawarra cabernet likely to age exceptionally well. Its dusty perfume of violets, cassis, cedar and vanilla overlies some complex and gamey oak-derived aromas. Smooth and silky, its long and fine-grained palate delivers a lingering core of intense cassis, blueberry and dark plum flavour tightly knit with cedar/vanilla oak and framed by firm, powdery tannin. It finishes long and dusty, with undertones of dried herbs and dark olives."
