'Impossibly good Australian chardonnay.' - Wine Front 97 Points!
Wine Front 97 Points!
Extraordinary site, a vision dedicated to reflecting the confluence of vineyard and season, a heart-torn-out-of-chest emotional approach to growing grapes and making wine from Michael Dhillon and family. These are such important and wonderful wines.
Concentration, reserve, quiet power. A formidable wine of richness and generosity yet a piercing beam of mineral-charged acidity that pulses through the wine and drives through an impossibly long finish. Succulence, glide, vitality, deliciousness. You could extrapolate on detail, nuance, the way it makes you search for descriptors, but the takeaway is that the wine is about impact – a sense of quality and transportation to a cool vineyard that produces grapes of incredible vitality and flavour. Impossibly good Australian chardonnay.

As is usual, the juice goes to barrel straight from the press tray, with no additions of yeast, nutrients or enzymes. Once the juice is in barrel a small amount of sulphur is added and then we wait, usually about five days, for the fermentation to begin. The wine spent 11 months on yeast lees and a total of 15 months in French barrels, of which 35% were new, before bottling.
This is a classic Quartz with typical floral, citrus and wet stone aromas. Initially the nose is closed, but with a little air and time, layers of fragrance and spice are revealed. The palate is full and fresh, tight and mineral, and drives for a long and dry finish. It needs four years to relax and soften but it is quite delicious in a taut and challenging way now. It has a long and fine future ahead.
