[SOLD-OUT] Bindi Dixon Pinot Noir 2015

Jeremy Oliver 95 Points!

“An exceptional pinot of elegance and suppleness that will build richness and depth with time. Heady and voluminous, it’s deeply floral, with musty scents of sweet red cherries, dark cherries and raspberries overlying notes of rose petals and beetroot. It’s long, soft and deeply layered, with pristine small berry and cherry flavours supported by cedary oak and a pliant spine of dusty tannins, extending smooth and silky towards a soft and remarkably persistent finish.”

Wine Front 93 points!
““There wasn’t a day over 40 degrees in the entire growing season. Mind you, there were four days over 35 degrees”, explains vigneron Michael Dhillon. “The 2015s are harmonious, relaxed, giving, almost disarmingly delicious now, but should live for a very long time, they’re balanced, have intensity, and have requisite acid too”.  This wine spends 11 months in barrel, 25% new oak, about 5% whole bunch in the mix too. Planted 1988 and 2001, there’s a mix of pinot noir clones here, including (1988) a sparkling clone (managed for low yield even if it wants to go bigger) and 2001 planting offers MV6, 115, 114 clones. Many instruments in the orchestra.

Bright cherry-berry fruitiness overthrows sweet spice, clove, anise and sweet earth character. Even a touch of dried leaves in perfume. Lovely texture, quite sappy, quite sinewy but it yields to a puddle of mouthwatering red fruits to finish. Between, some grippy tannin, flint-earth mineral character, green herbs, a swoosh of suede tannin. It’s offering so much.”

Mike Bennie, Wine Front, December 2016

“Bindi maintains a revered, cult-like status in the wine world. Many argue that their wine, made organically and in scarce supply, are the best in Victoria. The Dixon is a blend of Pinot Noir from the Original Vineyard planted in 1988 and grapes from Block K, planted in 2001. The wine captures the "best of both worlds" that can be gained from blending two trophy sites - the perfume and exuberant fruit from Block K is backed by the spice, forest notes and texture of the Original vineyard. This delicious and harmonious Pinot is your perfect foray into the unique pleasure gained from drinking Bindi Pinot Noir.”

“Immediately evident are cherry and raspberry aromas with underlying spice, aromatic whole berry and bunch aromas. Additional subtle layers are evident offering creaminess and savoury and earthy notes. The palate is fresh, full, rich, very smooth and flowing and finishes dry, gently grippy and long. Another four years will see this wine gain more structure as the primary fruit softens and complexity build.”
