[SOLD-OUT] Best's Old Vine Pinot Meunier 2020

96 POINTS JAMES HALLIDAY!

"A wine of both astonishing history and grace. Part of its great appeal is a delicacy and purity of meunier rarely, if ever, encountered, and at just 12% alcohol. Spring florals, musky spice, leafy underbrush, black cherry, mulberry ... the complexities of fruit flavours go on and on. Supple, fleshy tannins and a balance of bright acidity completes one impressive wine." - Wine Companion

"The Millers Burgundy vineyard, first planted in 1867, is made up of mostly Pinot Meunier and a little Pinot Noir. This unique vineyard block is treated with meticulous care and in good vintages this block is made into a ‘single block’ wine. The grapes are hand-picked, hand sorted and hand plunged in open vats and aged in French oak barrels.

The Best’s Old Vine Pinot Meunier is the ultimate wine that speaks of place and it has a cult following. This decade, Best’s Great Western ‘Old Vine’ Pinot Meunier has only been made in 2005, 2008, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2016, 2017 and 2019. In other year’s the fruit goes into the Best’s Great Western “Young Vine” Pinot Meunier or the Pinot Meunier, Pinot Noir Blend.

Deep crimson with a pale ruby hue Bouquet Fragrant and brooding- Cherry skin, charcuterie and wood spices tingle the senses. Palate The layers of red fruit, cumin spice and blood orange dance on the tongue. It eventually sits down with long silky tannins on the finish. Try it with Seared Tuna and a blood orange salad. Good to drink in the short term but it will reward cellaring in ideal conditions for 20 years or more." - Best's
