'Best's is an understated icon of Australian wine, not only because it's been around for a long time but because its shiraz is a beacon of the medium-bodied, cool-climate style. This release is coffeed, earthy, creamy and cherry-plummed. It's ripe, sweet, and full, but just a little simple. It may just need time. Quality fruit.'

'A restrained floral fragrance of red cherries and berries, a spicy perfume of white pepper, cloves and cinnamon and a whiff of cedary oak precede a fine, silky-smooth palate whose mulberry and dark plum-like fruit is framed by firm, but supple tannins. It's warmer, slightly riper and more plush than usual, with a hint of the blockiness as well as the slight leafiness that characterises so many 2001 reds. 17.7, drink 2009-2013+'

Grapes of four different planting's have been used in the 2001 Bin N0 0 Shiraz, 1966, 1970, 1992 and 1994. It is the first time that the 1992 and 1994 vines have reached the standard required for Bin No 0. A lot has been talked about the age of vines and it is gratifying to see a young vineyard come to fruition. Compared to previous vintages this wine shows a little more oak, which should integrate nicely with time. The 2001 'Bin No O' has all the hallmarks of fine Shiraz produced from grapes grown exclusively on Best's Concongella vineyard. Bin No O, complexity power and longevity. Maturation in oak puncheons for over two years prior to bottling makes this Shiraz very approachable even as a young wine.'
