[SOLD-OUT] Benjamin Leroux Volnay Les Mitans 2010

Les Mitans is probably best known in Australia through the wines of Domaine de Montille. Throw in Lafarge and you can see that Leroux has some pretty good company in this site. The vineyard is mid slope and exposed due east with a light, stony top soil. This is an achingly beautiful Volnay. So silky, so elegant and so, so long. Lifted, lush-white strawberries and forest fruit, purple flower and clove aromas and flavours. Leroux's light touch lets the mineral freshness of this site shine through and there is a wealth of vivid, pure fruit to complement. There is structure, but on the day we tasted it was super fine. For the whole bunch watchers - there's 20% here. Just a gorgeous wine.

"Mild reduction renders the nose difficult to evaluate other than to observe that the underlying fruit appears to be ripe. The lacy, even delicate flavors are classic Volnay with a lovely minerality on the delicious if slightly austere finish. This is textbook Mitans that will require the better part of a decade to soften its firm tannic spine."
