Benjamin Leroux Savigny-les-Beaune 2021

A HIGH QUALITY CULTIVAR OF PINOT HAS THIS WINE PUNCHING WELL ABOVE ITS PRICE - GRACE, FLORALS AND A LINEAR STYLE

"The bouquet is a little more pronounced in fresh raspberry fruit, pleasing rather than massive. Very stylish, with a good fruit acid balance. A fine and balanced Savigny without rusticity." - Jasper Morris

"The lion’s share of this vintage comes from the outstanding Aux Fourneaux lieu-dit in the north of the village. Leroux works with lots of Pinot Fin here (a high-quality, low-yielding cultivar of Pinot Noir); vines that give low yields and great concentration. Les Conardises also contributed this year, and both parcels were fully destemmed. The wine was matured in 600-litre barrels." - Winery

"With respect to the reds, 2021 marks a sharp return to the vivid red fruit of cooler growing seasons. Red cherries, crushed strawberries, often traits of orange rind or blood orange, most are far removed from the black/blue-fruited 2019s and 2020s. Alcohol levels are much lower than the previous three years, usually between 12.0% and 12.5%. That’s a degree or more, less than the levels we were getting accustomed to. There is greater underlying mineralité, tension, and vibrancy on the palate compared to recent vintages. Tannins, at best, are finely chiselled, and the finishes often contain plenty of sapidity." - Neal Martin
