An indigenous Mt Etna variety, a region made famous by Benanti for making complex and elegant wines to rival Burgundy.

Varieties:  100% Nerello Mascalese
Region:  Mt Etna,  Sicily, Italy

Benanti is a reference-point producer for beautiful wines from the Mt Etna and Pachino, two of Sicily’s most privileged spots. It offers a great introduction to some of the important indigenous grapes of the Etna, such as Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Cappuccio. Nerello Mascalese is at home at the high altitude of the Mt Etna volcano and gives wines that are much more mineral-driven and leaner than those made from Nero d'Avola, a grape also dominant in Sicily. Its highly perfumed and effusively fruity wines are beginning to garner critical acclaim. It is also known to be a fantastic translator of different soil types, not unlike pinot noir.
