Wine Front 92 Points!
Wine Front 92 Points!"First thing I asked Phillip Jones was how much whole bunch he used in this wine. Second thing I did was feel like an idiot for asking. PJ was quick on the draw " "none". No mincing of words. I justified with mumbles of "stalkiness, leafiness, herbal inflection" and was partly vindicated... PJ reckons these characters are an edifice of the site, that though the wine is red berry dominant, it takes on these faux-whole bunch aromatics in moderate years. I'm a fan.
Gone is the brick red colour, gone are the buck wild aromatics, gone is the soupy texture. PJ again says the 2002 conversion to biodynamics has been the catalyst for the vibrancy in these wines. And wow, aint they shiny and clean? This is pretty, almost feminine with elegant lines and fine, feathery tannins. Very likable on the palate for its wild raspberry core, suggestions of the leafy aromatics and dusting of spice, the wine is long and pristine, though the fade to black is a little shorter than expected. Surprising elegance from the man who proffers wines with plenty of oxidative handling and lots of open ferments. Rates high on the drinkability scale, with plenty of detail to go back to from glass to glass."
