"The 2013 season was slightly warmer than average, but the east-west orientation of this block and the consequent shading of the clusters results in refreshing acids and orchard fruit notes. Complexity arrives via lees contact, natural ferment and malolactic fermentation, but the characteristic saline/oyster shell aromatics of the site are beginning to emerge.

"From 12 rows of the oldest chardonnay vines, planted in '76. Wild ferment and aged in French oak for 3 years. As usual, there's a fair amount of colour yet still bright, youthful and richly flavoured. Oak spice, creamy nuances, leesy, nutty, the flavours build long and precise."

"Crackerjack. Pour a glass and the sparks fly. Flint, nuts, peach and cedar spice. It rumbles through the mouth, all richness and funk, a quartz-like character rocking the finish. You have to like like a bit of struck match, for certain, but the tautness, the power, the attitude; it’s mesmerising. Brilliant chardonnay."
