“From 1976 plantings, left on lees for 36 months in (large) French oak casks. I opened it last night, tried a bit, then put the bottle away. It’s better today. It needs some air. Smells like rock pools, grilled nuts, spice, stone fruits, butter menthols, and all manner of things, but at its core, it’s essentially a savoury style of wine. It has fruit power, a core of firm acidity, buttery flavours mixed with orange, slick and glossy, yet flinty too. It has length and impact. It may split the room, but there’s no denying it’s a wine of personality and wild character.”
