When Bannockburn Shiraz is on form it's one hell of a glass of wine. From a vintage where the soils were charged after the rains of 2011, and close to ideal growing conditions, the 2012 is one of those years. Bannockburn's Shiraz is drawn from the estate's 1996 plantings on Moorabool Valley's south facing volcanic soils. Hand harvested in late March, the 2012 was, again, largely whole bunch fermented and spent a total of 4 weeks in skins before pressing to mostly mature oak puncheons for 18 months. Meltingly tender and elegant dark red fruits, olives, black pepper and spice - all in harmony - reflect the excellent growing season. A fine tannin structure underpins supple red fruits and spice on the palate. It's long and refined, displaying all the power and elegance derived from Bannockburn's cool climate fruit. A tip-top vintage for this wine.
Bibendum
A classic year: the soils were fully charged after the rains of 2011, and the growing season was excellent. The Shiraz was hand harvested in late March.80% whole bunch fermentation, on skins for typically 4 weeks. Pressed to tank and settled overnight then racked to puncheons (some new) for elevage. Bottled in October 2013. Harmonious and elegant dark red fruits, olives, black pepper and spice reflect the excellent growing season. A fine tannin structure underpins supple red fruits and spice on the palate.
